It is a wonderful help, thank you! I am a total starter here, so when I came across your blog on PINTEREST, I could not wait to dive 🙂 I have a stupid question, I live in what we call a raised ranch its unique story with a high ceiling basement, So when you enter the front door, you have to climb 6 steps .. so high at home. I totally agree that the beds are 30-50% of the height of the wall. However, my side yard, where I look like a bed is incredibly narrow, and I can tell you now that I would be prohibited from planting something with height (like a tree) butted against the house. HELP ME. PS the area is totally bare, it is connected to two neighbors back, no fences and no landscaping.

In the event that you suffer a total loss to your home, for example, because of a fire, it is reasonable to assume that your fencing, lawn and other landscaping would have also been Destroyed. In this scenario, you would have a cover to replace these types of elements at the limit of the strategy you will have to choose. For clients who have invested a lot of time and money in a garden, you can choose a limit of $ 100,000 to make sure your investment is protected. Often, customers underestimate the value of their fencing and lawns. It is therefore a good idea to get an estimate of the replacement cost to make sure that the coverage limit you choose will be sufficient.

A land plan of the property, as shown in Figure 19-27, is an excellent starting point. Sometimes a parcel plan is provided when the property is purchased. If this is not the case, consult the local county assessor's office or the GIS County Tax and Deed website. The parcel plan must include the property lines, indicate the location of the house on the property and indicate the alleys, easements and any other limitations. Be sure to check for any setbacks or flows on the property that may have their own set of legal settings. The location of exact property boundaries is important when a fence is part of the final design.

The pea stone exists in different sizes, so you can get a stone of three quarters of an inch if you are afraid of the wind. Crushed stone is also available in a variety of colors, so that you can change it depending on your style, the color of the house, or the region of the country. For low maintenance plants, opt for perennials. You buy them once, and they come back year after year, ‘says Chris. For example, chickens and chicks are resistant plants that grow well in rocky and difficult areas, while a few yuccas are enough to fill a space with large, spiny leaves.

The cabbage is available in many varieties that have interesting colors and textures (Figure 19 – 50). Instead of planting ornamental ground cover, consider planting evergreen strawberries or raspberries. An area with well-drained soil that receives at least 6 to 7 hours of direct sunlight produces strawberry plants with lush green foliage, spring flowers and fruits from the beginning of the à summer. Rosemary, thyme, oregano, lavender and many other herbs offer a variety of design options. Some are evergreen, some are shrubs, some create creeping covers, and all have colorful flowers and unique scents.

Collecting water with rain barrels is an extremely easy (and environmentally friendly) way to water your plants. “We have a rain barrel and it’s fixed on the downspout, so all the water comes out of the roof of your house,” says Peyton. Or it could be as simple as letting a trash can fill with water. For a low-maintenance outdoor cooking space, invest in appliances that last. “If you want something that will stand the test of time, opt for a built-in barbecue with a stone veneer on the front,” says Peyton. A sturdy granite countertop is also a durable feature, and it is ideal for resisting varied weather conditions.
