Build a stream bed to direct water away from a low point in your garden. Or if the slope of the land allows it, use a streambed to drain a low point. Start with a ditch – basically a shallow, shallow drainage ditch. Then line it up with gravel or stones and add interest with rocks, a bridge or plantations. Of course, you do not have to turn your drainage project into a creek bed. A simple depression is an effective and subtle way to control surface water.

Choosing the right plant in the right place reduces the need for irrigation water, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, and work. Native plants or indigenous species cultivars benefit the local ecosystem in a myriad of ways, including supporting insects, the main source of food for birds. breeders and other native species. In addition, they attract native pollinators, including birds, bats, butterflies, bees and moths, and provide food, shelter and habitat of choice for wildlife. Native plants also enhance the beauty of all types of gardens – from the formal model to the informal design and give a sense of place and regional history.

Hardcores for visual accents. For example, evergreen trees add color and unity to winter. Whenever possible, select plants that are of interest all year round. The river birch (Betula nigra) has pretty spring flowers, a beautiful autumn or summer color and an exfoliating bark for the winter. Focus the color where the accent is desired. But when we consider the colors of plants, remember that more is not necessarily better. In a good design, the main colors of the plant are the shades of green that highlight the seasonal accent colors. Do not use too many evergreen plants because they can be visually "heavy" and do not provide as much seasonal change as deciduous plants.

We recognize that the more a person goes through transition spaces from a completely closed environment to a fully open environment, the more the experience becomes transparent and connected. Addressing the hierarchy, or order, of space and scale is also important. More precisely, land use can be determined by the scale of a space. Roads, for example, have a defined hierarchy. All lanes can be of standard size (large enough to accommodate a vehicle), but the streets are designed to accommodate a certain volume of traffic. As such, a level 1 road such as a highway may have four lanes in each direction.

I was always scared to start because I realized how inexperienced and badly prepared I am. But now you give me the inspiration and the basics to start doing it! Thank you very much! You make an excellent point to ensure that if you plan to add a pool to your yard in the future, you should include it in your current landscaping plans. I would like to have my own pool one day since I trained for triathlons. It may be important to plan your landscaping to enhance your pool so that your garden does not feel cut. Thanks for your advice. I will keep them in mind when I build my pool one day.

Once again, magic is in the mulch. “In the spring, mulch everything, because it prevents weeds,” says Chris. It helps the water go directly to the plants that need it rather than feeding the weeds. Have children? Or pets? Do not be afraid to give artificial gtake a shot. “People are still wondering how to run a court at the dogs’ proofs and the children’s trials, but there is no way because they will run and tear down your lawn,” explains Chris. But if you give them an artificial lawn to play, they will not wreak havoc on the rest of your court. Moreover, it does not require any maintenance on weekends.
