Maintaining a Lawn Mower
Many experts say the best way to mow your lawn is to avoid the day’s heat by doing it in the morning. Also, prevent mowing after heavy rains, as this will make mowing more difficult and cause clippings and mulch to the bunch. Mow in overlapping vertical or horizontal lines to get the best out of your mowing time, never in circles or spirals. Most professionals also advise changing directions a couple of times when mowing. If you’ve mowed in vertical lines for a few weeks, change it up and mow in a horizontal pattern. This will promote a more natural lawn appearance. Alternating cutting lengths may be required to avoid scalping portions of uneven lawns.
A Well-maintained Mower Is an Effective Mower
A well-maintained mower is an effective mower. Keep standard and gas-powered tools away from the elements to keep blades sharp and prevent rust. Gas-powered mowers require a bit more maintenance, however. Have the mower serviced and tuned up before the spring mower season.
