The gates can be built with any material, from wood to stone and metal, provided they blend well with the palette and style of the facade. When architecture requires a color palette on the facade, it must be extended to the landscape for all hardscape structures. Here is a good example of an intimacy wall of the front yard and a door column composed of shades selected by the architect. As much as possible, keep a very accurate palette for your front hardscape so that the entire site is visually integrated from the front edge to the rear fencing. Large urns are among the most powerful pieces of art in a front garden.
Anyway, it is important to consider how each change will be related to the big picture. Step back from time to time to see the entire landscape and how each part fits. You can build your own landscaping structures, including a wooden bed. Find how. Start at the starting box, whether you’re trying to do landscaping magic by transforming a new site or refresh a site that’s already in place. Starting at the start box means that you first see what you need to work on. Look at your landscape as if through a giant magnifying glass – scrutinizing every detail. So allow yourself to dream. Soon, you will come up with all sorts of ideas and sketch out rough plans.
Hardcores for visual accents. For example, evergreen trees add color and unity to winter. Whenever possible, select plants that are of interest all year round. The river birch (Betula nigra) has pretty spring flowers, a beautiful autumn or summer color and an exfoliating bark for the winter. Focus the color where the accent is desired. But when we consider the colors of plants, remember that more is not necessarily better. In a good design, the main colors of the plant are the shades of green that highlight the seasonal accent colors. Do not use too many evergreen plants because they can be visually "heavy" and do not provide as much seasonal change as deciduous plants.
Figure 19 - 25. There is a wide variety of textures, sizes and leaf colors as well as the variety of hArdscape elements that keep this little space interesting. Figure 19-26. Harmony is seen in this Japanese garden, all the components of the design relate to each other to create a coherent whole. In the first part of this chapter, we presented the principles and concepts that underlie landscaping. In this section, we focus on the mechanics of developing a landscaping plan. The planning of a residential landscape begins with the evaluation of the entire space and the desired overall effect of the final design.
See specifications for planting trees and shrubs in the southeastern United States (available online at http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ep112). Consider the vegetation that will produce wildlife food for your family. For more information go online to Edible Landscaping, http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ep146 and your Florida Dooryard Citrus Guide. Use compost bins for all vegetation waste. To construct a garbage bin, see Construction of Domestic Composting Units (online at http://polkhort.ifas.ufl.edu/documents/publications/Composter%20construction.pdf). Use your home, fences, walls and trees to create microclimates for different plants.

Landscaping guided by a series of arbitrary “rules” such as “always plant shrubs in groups of three or five” and “never plant annuals in public places” does not take into account the needs of individual families and sites. Such landscaping rarely gives good design. Good design should not be limited by such stipulated rules. Our goal in landscape design does not just create good visual relationships.
Water directly and aim the watering cans near the roots of the plants, not from above. Watering the leaves can damage them, and the moisture that starts there can evaporate before reaching the ground. They attract valuable moisture away from plant roots, so be sure to pull them regularly. The soil is the foundation of a healthy garden. The GH Lab Nature’s Care ($ 8, homedepot.com) comes with yucca and coconut, which work together to hold water and keep the plants hydrated.
